2 babies, 4 countries

A lot of you momma’s out there have been asking… How did we do all of that travelling crammed into 9 days with Hayden and Leo?! Well it definitely wasn’t easy, back in the day Jill and I would have been going into every little shop, down each cobble stone side street, and probably a little pub hopping… things have sure changed! Instead we were worried about who hasn’t napped and how long it’s been, why Hayden isn’t drinking her bottle and when will Leo stop running around so we can drink our Glühwein before it gets cold!

Hayden is still sleeping 12 hours a night straight, with 3 naps during the day so I was a little bit worried as to how she would take all the travelling. We went on quite a few day trips with about a 2 hour drive each way. So we tried to plan it so she would have some awake time at home and play, then during her first nap we would get into the car and she would sleep the entire drive, and it worked great! Out and about all day wasn’t the best, she would fall asleep in the stroller or car seat, but it was always in and out… therefore interrupted… and then a cranky baby lol. But hey! When you have visitors in Austria, you get out of the house and deal with sleep when everyone is gone! Another little trick (thanks to Jill) Baby Einstein lullaby on iTunes, seriously worked like a charm for both Hayden and Leo in the car!

As for the food part, Hayden is on formula… so I brought a formula dispenser and it was a lifesaver! She did go a day or two where she wasn’t eating as much, but I think all of the travelling just threw her off a little bit. Once we would get home, she’d have her regular amount. Leo isn’t a picky eater either, so it was easy for him as well!

Jill’s last 2 days in Europe, we decided to go to Paris!! It’s only a 1 hour drive from Dornbirn to Zurich, then an hour flight to Paris. Both Hayden and Leo slept the drive to the airport. But then they wouldn’t let me bring my 2 piece stroller into the airport (which I have before) so I had to carry Hayden and didn’t come prepared with a wrap! Once we got on the flight, the calmness went out the door lol!. Jill was a couple rows ahead of me, and we could hear both babies screaming, Hayden was NOT a happy camper. She didn’t like the position she had to sit in with the infant seatbelt on my lap. Then every time I would move her, the flight attendant was not happy. I used to be the person who cares what people think, that disappears quickly when you have kids lol! Sorry to the people who have to listen to it, but thankfully she did calm down and fall asleep. As for her nighttime routine, she sleeps in her Dock a tot, and I decided not to bring it with me… so I didn’t know what to expect! We wanted them to have some quiet, so Hayden slept in the walk in closet, and Leo in the bathroom (the hotel supplied cribs for us!!). I rolled up a towel and put it under the sheet so it still felt like her own bed, and she slept great the first night! Second night was a different story… she started to get a bit sick and puked alllllll over me. Her temp was fine but I moved her beside me for the night just to monitor her.

At the end of it all, sure it’s a lot more stressful and difficult with babies. But you make it work, go with the flow…. your plans definitely don’t always work out the way you want it to, and you learn as you go! We had to cancel a few plans, rearrange our days, and things take a lot longer. I still wouldn’t trade it for anything, what an amazing opportunity for Jill and I (plus the kids even though they won’t remember, that’s what photo’s are for).

Auf Wiedersehen!

Tell us more about the issue with the stroller!? Ahhh! I’m travelling to Europe with my 9 month old and my Bugaboo Cameleon. Can I not fly with it?

I’ve travelled with it before and gate checked it no issues, so I️ think it depends on the airline. But Air France wouldn’t let a 2 price stroller through, had to be a 1 piece. But on the way back I️ argued with them a bit and she let me bring it through, and said security may not allow it. They let me but it didn’t fit through the security belt so it was a pain!

Great pictures! I’ll be flying from Germany to Vancouver this month with a 4 month old! I’m wondering, what formula dispenser did you use?

Such beautiful photos! You both look great in front of the camera. After watching your insta stories (and Jill’s), I have to ask, where the H did you snag that unbelievably comfortable looking onesie?! I need to buy several in time for Christmas for everyone I know!

i think travelling with babies makes for flexible, resilient little ones. we’ve done so much traveling with our little guy in his first year and i wouldn’t change a thing. even if it’s tough on the mamas, it’s worth it!
